SSC GD 2026 Medical Guidelines Revised: New BMI Rules & Key Changes Explained

The Government of India, through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), has released an important corrigendum regarding the medical examination guidelines for the recruitment of Constable (GD) in CAPFs, SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination 2026.

This update introduces significant changes in medical standards, especially concerning Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight assessment criteria.

SSC GD 2026 Medical Notification

As per the official notice dated 29 April 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued amendments to the earlier medical guidelines published in 2015.

These revised guidelines will now be applicable during:

  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
  • Review Medical Examination (RME)

for SSC GD 2026 recruitment.

Key Changes in Medical Examination Rules

No Rejection Based on Weight During PST

Earlier, candidates could face disqualification based on weight during the Physical Standard Test (PST).

Now:

  • The PST Board will not reject any candidate based on weight
  • Only height, chest, and weight will be recorded

Role of Medical Officer Updated

  • Height and chest measurements will be taken from PST records
  • Weight will be measured separately during the Medical Examination (MET)
  • Medical officers are not part of the PST Board

BMI Criteria Introduced (Most Important Update)

The biggest change is the introduction of a strict BMI-based evaluation system.

Acceptable BMI Range:

  • 18 to 25

Rejection Criteria:

  • BMI below 18 → Underweight
  • BMI above 25 → Overweight

Candidates falling outside this range will be declared medically unfit.

The SSC GD 2026 medical guideline revision is a crucial update every aspirant must understand. The shift from simple weight-based checks to BMI-based evaluation makes physical fitness more structured and transparent. Candidates should start preparing early by maintaining a healthy BMI range to avoid disqualification in the final stage.
